Brazil legend Ronaldo has dengue fever

January 5, 2012

Former Brazil striker Ronaldo has revealed he has contracted dengue fever.

On Wednesday, Ronaldo, 35, wrote on his Twitter account that he was discharged from a hospital the night before and is recuperating.

He apparently contracted the mosquito-borne disease while vacationing at a north-eastern Brazil beach town.

Ronaldo thanked fans on Twitter for the well-wishes he has received, while confirming he is now treating the disease, resting and looking forward to his recovery.

Dengue can cause fever, headache and pain in muscles and joints. It’s potentially fatal, if it develops into dengue haemorrhagic fever, and there is no vaccine or specific treatment.

The former Real Madrid player, who has plied his trade at Corinthians in recent seasons, was a prolific goalscorer for his country Brazil, scoring 62 times in 98 caps.
